How common are air-raid alerts? What happens during a tour?
Alerts do happen. When they do, our guides receive detailed real-time information about the nature of the alert.
We explain what’s going on, discuss it with the group, and together decide how to proceed. Sometimes we pause indoors; sometimes we take shelter; sometimes we continue with the day.
Our guides are calm, experienced, and know exactly what to do — you’ll never be left guessing.
Will I hear explosions?
It’s possible, but not common. If you do, they are usually distant and safely intercepted by Ukrainian air defence. Our guides will always keep you informed so you understand what you’re hearing.
Are foreigners at any special risk?
No. Visitors face the same general conditions as locals. We only operate tours in areas that are assessed as safe for guests, and we continuously monitor conditions.
Is there a curfew? Does it affect tours?
Yes, there is usually a night curfew. It won’t affect your experience — all our tours and activities fit comfortably within daytime and early evening hours. Your guide will make sure you’re always back safely and on time.
Are hotels and restaurants open and reliable?
Absolutely. Kyiv’s hospitality scene is extremely resilient. Most hotels and restaurants have backup generators, Wi-Fi, and heating. We can recommend places that travellers consistently enjoy and that handle power outages smoothly.
Can I use my credit card?
Yes. Card payments are accepted almost everywhere. ATMs work normally too. Most of our guests barely use cash, but having a little on hand can be helpful.
What happens if the power goes out?
Power cuts can happen at certain times of year, but the city adapts quickly. Venues switch to generators, and tours continue as normal.
We do recommend bringing multiple power banks, and our guides can point you toward reliable places to charge devices if needed.
Is the water safe to drink?
Yes. Filtered tap water is common, and bottled water is inexpensive and available everywhere.
Are museums and cultural sites open? Will our tour include them?
Yes — many museums, churches, galleries, and cultural venues are open and operating. We include a mix of major landmarks and local hidden gems, depending on your tour.
Can I take photos during the tour?
Absolutely — Kyiv is incredibly photogenic. Just avoid taking photos of military sites or soldiers. Your guide will let you know if anything is restricted.
Are there areas of Ukraine that I shouldn’t visit?
Yes — but they’re far from where we operate. We do not offer tours in frontline or restricted regions.
All our tours take place in areas assessed as safe for visitors, and we constantly review the situation.
Are there scams or things I should avoid?
Kyiv is a safe and straightforward city for travellers. We’ll advise you on simple tips, trustworthy taxi apps, and good neighbourhoods. When you’re on one of our tours, we take care of the practicalities for you.
How do Ukrainians feel about foreigners visiting during the war?
Very positively. Your visit supports local businesses, guides, restaurants, hotels — and shows solidarity. Expect warmth, curiosity, and sincere appreciation.
Is cash or card better?
Card is perfect for almost everything. A little cash is convenient, but not essential. Your guide can help with ATMs if needed.
Is public transport still running?
Yes. The metro, buses, and trams all run reliably. Kyiv’s metro is especially useful — and doubles as a shelter if required.
Our tours often use a mix of walking and public transport so you experience the city like a local.
What documents do I need when entering Ukraine by land?
Just your passport (and a visa if your nationality requires one). The border process is smooth and used to international tourists.
Can I bring humanitarian aid with me?
If you want to — yes. Many visitors like to bring small items such as power banks, warm clothing, or medical supplies. If you’d like guidance, just ask us and we’ll tell you what’s most needed at the moment. Completely optional.
Is English widely spoken?
Yes. In central Kyiv, many people speak English, especially in tourism and hospitality. Your guide will help with any language barriers.
